Salty Plums a Cure all



It was years ago while I was trekking through Asia that I first came across an odd type of sweet once I took notice of them they were everywhere I went. These humble salty plums come in so many different varieties, and ironically some salty plums are not salty.

In fact these plums can be sugarcoated, dried and even flavored as well as the traditional salted, in fact you can pretty much salt any type of fruit. While in Asia I saw preserved mangos and paw paws as well as some other interesting salty plum choices.

Salting is actually another method of preserving foods and has been used to preserve foodstuffs for centuries. Aside from its preserving effect it also adds a characteristic taste.

The Benefits of the salt in salty plum

Now before you begin to worry about the health issues arising from salt. Fear not salt is actually a great preservative which when consumed preserves cells and vessels; mind you this is just my opinion.

When consumed in to greater quantities Salt can contribute to hypertension and high blood pressure and its associated problems so moderation is advised.

In fact salt is critical for your body to function it is needed by peoples who work in hot climates and sports persons who sweet a lot to replace what is lost by via sweating.

Health Benefits of Plums

As every body knows prunes are good for you and are high in antioxidants, a salty plum is actually a prune that has been dehydrated via salt rather than conventional drying. They also increase Iron absorption, which seems to be associated with the vitamin c in the fruit.

Putting it all together.

Now that you know the basic to get an actual feel for the humble salty plum you just add the combined benefits together and you get a sweet that is not only a great lolly alternative but a semi healthy one as well.

Salty plums are also used around the world to treat digestion, colds and flu’s, morning sickness and hangovers. In fact in Japan it is a salty plum a day that keeps the doctor away.
